The How to use God’s Wealth (V9-10)

Studying or learning God’s word always leads one to obey God’s will, then only will one knows how to use God’s wealth in their lives. The Bible didn’t tell you to honor the Lord with your singing or honor the Lord with your praying but with your substance. There is something about wealth that you need to rule over it or it will run over you and that is why God warned the people of Israel not to forget Him, when they become wealthy in the land He is giving them in Deuteronomy Chapter 8 through Moses. A reminder, “You shall remember the LORD your God, for it is he who gives you power to get wealth....” Deut 8:18. If you are going to be successful don’t leave God out of your cheque book. When the father counsels his son in Proverb chapter 3, he didn’t even mention on tithing. If you are contended with tithing you need to grow up.

Honor the Lord with thy substance, which means with everything you have, and that’s the way we honor Him, because He owns everything. He talks about first-fruits of all thine increase, of which, a farmer will know what the Lord was saying, “For out of the chief of all thine increase; God must have the best and in the first place nothing less.” Remember the farmer Jesus was talking about who said in his heart that he is going to tear down his barn and build a big one. What was his problem? God didn’t come first but his wealth and that is the selfish kind of life. What is the solution? The Master has this to say, “But seek first the kingdom of God....” (Matt 6:33). The blessing of God is the window in which we see God. Learn or Study God’s word, obey God’s will and use God’ wealth to honour Him. What I see, are some people who are wasting away their wealth, some who are spending it away. But we the Lord’s people should be investing God’s wealth!

Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth ... but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. Matt 6:19-20

Obeying God’s will (V5-8)

For the past two days we have been looking at the Father’s counsel through Proverb chapter 3. Only after one has studied the word of God can he move on to the next level and that is obeying His will. “….do not lean on your own understanding”, that is don’t depend on them but trust on God. We all can be wise in our own eyes, but the counsel of God disagrees (v7) for sometimes, logically we may be right but not scripturally. So obeying His will is the best way. There is a word that has been seen from chapter 2, 3 and 4 of Proverb, the word Path.
1. 2:8 “ guarding the paths of justice and Watching over the way of his saints.”He protects and preserved our path.
2. 3:6 “In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy path” He directs our path.
3. 4:18 “But the path of the just is as the shining light, that shineth more and more unto the perfect day.” He gives us prefect Path.
How then will it happen? With all of thine heart (v5), acknowledge Him means fellowship and if there is something in your life that can’t bring God into partnership then get rid of it.

Obeying God’s will bring healing to our flesh and refreshment to our bones (v8). And that’s what the Father is saying to all of us. Learn from my word and obey it and in return I will bless you with good health.

Studying God’s Word (Pro 3:1-4)

What is God’s word? God’s word is His law, God’s commandment and God’s will. God’s law is built into the universal, for we can’t fight with that; example law of gravity. You can’t walk out of your 10th floor bedroom window and hope to be safe, you can’t eat whatever you want and hope to be on the healthy side with the law of health. If one fights with the law of God then there will be weakness and defeat because one fights against God’s will. Only when we study God’s word we have power and progress. When God first wrote His word it was on stone, but no longer now - it’s in your heart. That’s why twice the writer of Proverb says, “.... let your heart keep my commandments (v1).... write them on the tablet of your heart (v3).” The apostle Paul said the same thing in 2Cor 3-3, “And you show that you are a letter from Christ delivered by us, written not with ink but with the Spirit of the living God, not on tablets of stone but on tablets of human hearts.”

Wherewithal shall a young man cleanse his way? (He finishes off by saying)..... Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee. Psalm 119:9-11(KJV). Campbell Morgan says, the best book, “thy word”, in the best place, “hid in mine heart” the best purpose, “that I might not sin against thee.” When we say, to study God’s Word, we are not talking about someone who is a Bible student, and nothing’s wrong in going for Bible school but about a devoted person who take it and write it in his or her hearts. Learn God’s word, “for length of days and years of life and peace they will add to you (V2).” This doesn’t mean calendar years because wicked people live longer life and length of days and godly people like Robert M’cheyne died at the age of 29 and David Brainerd died at the age of 30. Both men’s works are still being use by so many Christians. The apostle Paul said that godly lives is profitable for this lives and that which to come. What Paul is saying, let’s study the word of God and let God’s word controls your mind and fills you.

Word Of The Week

My son, do not forget my teaching, but let your heart keep my commandments, for length of days and years of life and peace they will add to you. Let not steadfast love and faithfulness forsake you; bind them around your neck; write them on the tablet of your heart. So you will find favor and good success in the sight of God and man. Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths. Be not wise in your own eyes; fear the LORD, and turn away from evil. It will be healing to your flesh and refreshment to your bones. Honor the LORD with your wealth and with the firstfruits of all your produce; then your barns will be filled with plenty, and your vats will be bursting with wine. My son, do not despise the LORD's discipline or be weary of his reproof, for the LORD reproves him whom he loves, as a father the son in whom he delights. Blessed is the one who finds wisdom, and the one who gets understanding, for the gain from her is better than gain from silver and her profit better than gold. She is more precious than jewels, and nothing you desire can compare with her. Long life is in her right hand; in her left hand are riches and honor. Her ways are ways of pleasantness, and all her paths are peace. She is a tree of life to those who lay hold of her; those who hold her fast are called blessed. Proverb 3:1-18 (ESV)

Father’s Counsel

There is a saying;” Old people love to give good advice it saves the trouble to be good example.” For some of us our parent has given us lasting investment. Who had been there when we got into trouble and had been the voice that had help us. If you had read the work of the week (Pro 3:1-18) it will help us in what we going to ponder the next five days, if you have not, than it is a good time that you read them now. In the book of Proverbs the word,” My Son” occurs 23 times. “My son, hear the instruction of thy father….1:1,” My son, if sinners entice you, do not consent…1:10,” Hear, my son, and accept my sayings, and the years of your life will be many 4:10,” Cease listening, my son, to discipline, and you will stray from the words of knowledge 19:27. If you are thinking that it is speaking to only the male gender then you are wrong it means both gender.

In Proverb Chapter 3:1-18, it is Solomon speaking to his son in this passage, so we hear a father’s counsel to his son. An earthly father’s voice to his son, but if you are listening carefully you can hear our heavenly Father’s counsel to us. The Father shares His will and counsel in these verses. There are five admonitions,
1. Studying God’s word. V1-4
2. Obeying God’s will V5-8
3. How to use God’s Wealth V9-10
4. Take note of His warning V11-12
5. Seek God’s Wisdom V13-18
